Dr. Arun R. Hariharan

MD, MS, Pediatric Orthopedic and Spine Surgeo

Dr. Arun Hariharan joined Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute in October 2022. He is a double fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeon with particular expertise in pediatric spine surgery. In addition to the broad scope of pediatric orthopedics, his main passions are in caring for children with various spine-related conditions and in treating fractures in children.

Dr. Hariharan attended medical school at the University of Michigan and completed his orthopedic residency at University of Maryland. He further pursued his interests in pediatric orthopedics by completing a pediatric orthopedic surgery fellowship at the Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children. In order to further advance his spine surgery skillset, he traveled to Auckland, New Zealand to train at the Starship Children’s Hospital for a pediatric spine fellowship.

In addition to writing numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, Dr. Hariharan has also presented at various national conferences. He was awarded the Russel A. Hibbs Best Clinical Research Paper Award and the Louis A. Goldstein Best Clinical Research Poster Paper Award at the Spine Research Society Meeting in 2020.

Conditions treated include the whole array of pediatric orthopedics including fractures. In particular, he focuses on spinal conditions in children such as scoliosis , kyphosis , and spondylolisthesis . He is a firm believer in evidence-based medicine and technology in providing the most up to date care possible for children. In addition to spinal fusion procedures, he offers growth “friendly” techniques such as Vertebral Body Tethering and MAGEC rods.

Outside of work, he enjoys time with his wife, son, and their dogs. Dr. Hariharan is an avid Michigan Football and Basketball fan.
